DistiSuisse is an association that organises the largest Swiss award for spirits every two years, in collaboration with Agroscope. This is one of the most demanding in the world. The distillates are comprehensively evaluated by trained examiners according to objective, sensory criteria. Only the best products receive a medal.
The high-quality training and the awards are under the direction of Sonia Petignat, Agroscope Wädenswil.
Trendy spirit gin
With the high number of participants, the Swiss spirits industry is sending a strong signal. The diversity of the samples submitted signals innovation and creativity.
Once again, the number of gins entered stands out. A few years ago, gin was still a newcomer product. This year, a total of 72 samples were received, a record. This makes gin the absolute trend product among Swiss spirits.
But there are also many entries in the cherry, liqueur, special varieties, plum/plum and whisky categories.
The next step is for the jury of trained tasters to taste and evaluate all the samples. All submitted products will be analysed by the METAS laboratory for alcohol content, category winners additionally for other product-specific parameters.
The award ceremony will take place on 27 October at the Hotel Montana in Lucerne. This year's DistiSuisse ambassador, star chef and alchemist Stefan Wiesner from the Restaurant Rössli in Escholzmatt will be there.
Sarah Madritsch, bartender from the Widder Bar in Zurich and winner of the SWISS COCKTAIL OPEN, which was launched by the trade magazine BAR NEWS this year, will also accompany the event.
