The background? Running parallel to Apple Day, the Cider Festival Basel is taking place for the second time under the historic dome of the Markthalle. The idea is simple: the goal is to raise awareness of the diverse flavors of local apple wine—cider, cidre, or Moscht, as it’s also often called—and to spark enthusiasm for it.
Switzerland has remarkable expertise in processing high-quality pome fruit into cider or perry. The Swiss Fruit Association is well aware of this, which is why it is pleased to actively support the event.
Among the active producers, you’ll find both long-established companies with well-known brands and winemakers, apple enthusiasts, and newcomers who have recently entered the cider-making trade. Together, they offer one thing above all else: an incredibly interesting variety of flavors.
Traditional Swiss cider, modern interpretations of cider, and ciders inspired by French styles from Brittany and Normandy are served with great passion. Each producer has a story and a unique concept bottled—and is eager to share their work with joy.
New this year, two additional guest exhibitors will be on site. In addition to cider, they’ll offer visitors the chance to sample unfermented juice specialties made from single-variety apples or pears, as well as the finest fruit brandies. There truly is something for every taste. Admission is free.
Following the Basel Cider Festival, the Markthalle will continue to spotlight this theme: From October 19–25, 2026, a cider pop-up will delight Markthalle visitors with a carefully curated selection of bottles.
