BAR NEWS Curling Trophy 2020

It is almost a tradition that Barkeeper from all over Switzerland meet in Engelberg for curling at the end of January. It was particularly pleasing that two teams from French-speaking Switzerland also took part in the bar team event this year.

A good Barkeeper has a wide range of different skills. These include the ability to work in a team and know-how in dealing with ice.

Moreover, picking up a broom is just as much a part of working at the bar as picking up a cocktail shaker. So the conditions are good that there is a hidden curling talent in every Barkeeper .

Fun is at the centre of the get-together of the Swiss bar scene organised by BAR NEWS. Nevertheless, the Barkeeper gave their all until the last stone was laid to score a few more points.

The bar teams played four to five games of 45 minutes each and some of them will still have felt the muscles in their arms and legs the following day.

Exciting to the last stone

The curlers of the Barchetta team made the greatest progress. In the previous year, the team around team captain and skip Julio Enzler was still in last place and put in a convincing performance.

In the last game, the Barchetta and the "Adler vom Rütli" parted with a draw. The Barchetta thus secured 3rd place; for the Adler vom Rütli it was just not enough for 1st place.

With a win in each match, the "Mex Bar / Nicolas Feuillatte" team earned the top spot on the podium.

Cosy dinner at the "End of the World

The sporting part of the event was followed by the social part. First an aperitif with a glass of champagne, sponsored by Nicolas Feuillatte in the Sporting Park, then the group went to the restaurant "End of the World" for dinner.

As in previous years, the Bissig family served delicious Älplermagronen there. Before dessert, BAR NEWS editor Ruedi Zotter announced the results and presented the challenge cup to the winners. This will be kept in the Mex Bar in Sarnen until the next Curling Trophy.
