Gin has been booming for years. DistiSuisse has also noticed this trend. In recent years, those responsible in the gin category have noticed an increasing number of products produced in Switzerland that have been submitted for the award. In the last award in 2021, even the most products were submitted in the gin category.
This trend will be reflected at the upcoming DistiSuisse. For the first time, tasting with tonic will be possible in the gin category. This is a wish that was expressed by various participants during the survey at the last DistiSuisse. The entrants therefore have the option of having their product tasted neat or as a gin and tonic.
Award ceremony on October 13, 2023
This year's DistiSuisse 2023 will start with the official call for entries in May 2023. From then on, Swiss spirits producers will have the opportunity to submit their products in 19 categories. At the last award, 108 companies took part and submitted a total of 600 samples.
DistiSuisse hopes that this high number will be reached again. The call for entries runs until the end of June. The samples submitted will be judged by a trained jury in the summer. All products submitted will be analyzed by a certified laboratory for alcohol content by volume, category winners additionally for methanol, ethyl carbamate or thujone, depending on the product.
We can look forward to Friday, October 13, 2023, when the best of the best will be honored at the award ceremony in the old Markthallte in Basel.
