Successful bar course

BAR NEWS Academy Autumn Course

Against the odds, the BAR NEWS Academy cocktail and bar course took place on 19 and 20 October 2020. In small groups, prospective Barkeeper and interested parties learned the basics of bar work.

It is encouraging that during highly uncertain times for the catering industry (and for bars in particular), people from different regions of Switzerland and from a wide variety of backgrounds have participated in the BAR NEWS Academy's cocktail and bar course.

In deliberately small groups, the course participants were able to learn how to handle spirits of all kinds, cocktail shakers and bar spoons, taking into account safety measures and with personal supervision.

It was particularly interesting that the majority of the participants already had experience in gastronomy - most of them as chefs. Thus, the handling of fresh ingredients, the combination of flavours and a good mis-en-place was a challenge for very few of them.

While some of the participants only attended the first day of the course, those who booked the 2-day cocktail and bar course benefited from a more in-depth knowledge of the subject. Thus, the second course day offers the opportunity to mix and get to know even more of the classic cocktails.

In addition to the basic spirits, on the second day of the course one also learns about the most important aperitifs, vermouth wines, sherry and port wine as well as the most important liqueurs. In addition, the different gin categories could be dealt with in detail.

The end of the course consisted of the creation and pre-mixing of a cocktail creation. A big thank you goes to the participants for their trust and contribution to making the course run in a safe environment.
