Tips from Barkeeper of the year 2017

Former Barkeeper of the year, Jason-Candid Knüsel, talks about his experience at the SWISS BAR AWARDS 2017. After winning, he moved to the American Bar at the Savoy in London.
The Barkeeper of the year 2017 gives tips for participating in the SWISS BAR AWARDS.

BAR NEWS: Why did you enter the SWISS BAR AWARDS back then?
Jason-Candid Knüsel: My bar manager and mentor at the time, Wolfgang Mayer, entered me.

Why do you recommend that others take part in the awards?
I generally recommend everyone to take part in many competitions. You get out of your comfort zone and meet new people. There is nothing to lose!

What tips do you have?
Stay yourself and above all have fun. Because if you don't have fun, no one will have fun.

What were the reactions like after the victory?
It was my first victory at a national cocktail competition. I was correspondingly euphoric, as were my family and friends. There was a lot of media presence afterwards, which led to many new contacts.

What does the award mean to you?
The award confirmed my hard work. After several top-3 finishes in big competitions, it was simply brilliant for me to bring this victory to Andermatt. As I started my job in London a few months later, the winner's trophy went with me to the UK.
