In the past, more than 100 companies have participated in the award. All participants receive a comprehensive product assessment of the samples submitted. This enables the producers to determine where they stand. All submitted products are analyzed by the METAS laboratory for alcohol content % vol. Category winners will also be analyzed for methanol, ethyl carbamate or thujone, depending on the product. The best products submitted are awarded a gold or silver rating.
There is an innovation in this year's award in the gin category. Here, the entrants have the choice of whether the product is to be judged purely or whether the combination with tonic is to be included in the evaluation.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Markthalle in Basel.
