Gin has been produced at Rugenbräu since 2016. Master Distiller Kurt Althaus reveals: "After the Swiss Crystal Gin gained such rapid popularity, it was a logical consequence for us to create a gin line."
The result is two new gins that reveal special flavours and colours with exclusive ingredients.
The Swiss Crystal Gin Red surprises with its intense juniper scent, combined with woody notes and subtle berryiness. For this gin, the chokeberry is added whole, dried and in the form of granules.
This leads to the special, somewhat tart aroma. The Rugen Distillery obtains the berry from an organic cultivation at a Bernese institution with social commitment.
As a counterpoint to the rather tart Gin Red, the Swiss Crystal Gin Blue has fine, almost sweet aromas and captivates with its colour reminiscent of a blue sapphire.
The colour intensity can vary due to the natural product. A mystical play of colours is created when a little tonic is added to the gin, because then the drink takes on the colour violet.
