Description
Agroscope has developed this whisky wheel to better characterize the diversity of whiskies produced in the Alpine region. The common vocabulary is intended to facilitate tasting and description. A systematic approach with objective criteria increases the accuracy of the sensory description and enhances the taster's competence.

The whisky wheel consists of three concentric circles. These are divided by color into ten aroma categories: Floral, Fruity, Grainy, Vegetable, Woody, Spicy, Roasty, Vinous, Off-flavors and Flavor. In the inner circle, some of these categories are divided into subcategories such as citrus, stone fruit, exotic, etc. The outer circle contains 75 individual attributes, which are unmistakably characterized with aroma references. They provide clues to the variety of flavors of the different distillates and help to create a flavor profile for each whisky.
