Enjoyment and technology are the two topics that define his career path. After training as a wine technologist and completing a bachelor's degree in food technology, the Glarus native now works as a scientific and technical employee in the distillery at Agroscope. Thanks to his previous work as a cellar master, further training as a wine academic and as a juror at various wine and spirits awards, he has a wealth of sensory experience.
Thomas is taking over from Jonas Inderbitzin and is sticking to the tried-and-tested award in terms of tasting. Thomas has already worked in the background on many of the tasks involved in the last two DistiSuisse awards. He can count on an experienced jury team for the upcoming judging from August 11 to 13, 2025 in Wädenswil.
Changes compared to the last award
Following the decision by the DistiSuisse Board of Directors, only one company will be awarded the title of "Distillery of the Year" in 2025. This will make the award even more exclusive and prestigious, while at the same time placing the category winners in the spotlight. There will also be a special award for unsweetened fruit brandies, while vieille products and liqueurs will form their own category.
