Engagement in the Amazon

Canaïma strengthens support

Canaima Gin reinvests 10 per cent of its turnover in the Amazon. Support is given to various organisations that work to protect the environment and preserve local communities.

"Consumers are looking for unique products with a purpose and a story behind them," says Mariana Calderón, Master Distiller at Canaïma Gin and one of the key figures behind the brand's success. "With Canaïma Gin, we offer the opportunity to support communities in the Amazon and in particular artisanal women from different local indigenous tribes."

Canaïma Gin works with various non-governmental organisations, including Fundación Tierra Viva, a non-profit organisation that promotes the sustainable development of indigenous tribes through the fair trade of handicrafts produced by local communities, especially Warao women.

The cooperation between the Warao women is based on teaching each other, passing on knowledge from one generation to another and sharing their experiences and techniques together. Canaïma Gin, Tierra Viva and the Warao women have established such a positive collaboration that the men have also decided to join and start weaving handicrafts.

The brand has developed all its promotional material in collaboration with Fundación Tierra Viva, which has been entrusted with the production of bracelets, coasters, ice buckets and canisters used in various activations of the brand for almost two years.

As a result, the Fundación was able to build the first "Janokos", a typical Warao house, a tangible example of the importance of the work done.

To date, almost 200 members of these tribes have produced more than 15,000 handmade pieces from natural materials such as bora (an aquatic plant that grows on the riverbank) and moriche fibre (from the tree's palms). As a result, the Fundación was able to build the first "Janokos", a typical Warao house, a tangible example of the importance of the work done.
