Description
To make it easier to characterize the diversity of absinthe, Agroscope has developed this aroma wheel with the technical support of Mike Schütz. The aroma wheel simplifies and facilitates tasting and description. A systematic approach with objective criteria increases the accuracy of the sensory description and enhances the taster's competence.

The absinthe aroma wheel consists of three concentric circles. These are divided by color into seven aroma categories. In the inner circle, some of these categories are divided into subcategories. The outer circle contains 55 individual attributes, which are unmistakably characterized with aroma references. They provide clues to the variety of aromas of the different distillates and help to create an aroma profile for each absinthe.
