10 questions for Marc Schönholzer

I grew up in Altikon, a small village near Winterthur, and then studied in Zurich. I was already fascinated by the world of bartending during my studies.

I therefore completed online certificate courses to expand my knowledge and skills. I also attended an advanced course in New York, where I was able to learn from the best. Through the recommendation of a friend, I found Sabor Latino, where I have been working for over three years now. I particularly enjoy the creative aspect of my work and the interaction with the guests.

The 10 questions

1. who would you like to have served a drink to?
Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt (best known as "Don the Beachcomber"), the father of tiki cocktails, one of our signature cocktails to show him how much influence his ideas had on future generations of bartenders.

2. the first thing you do when you start work?
I prepare the fruit and utensils that we need to make the cocktails for my colleagues and for myself.

3. what do you love about your job?
The freedom I have in terms of the cocktails on offer, as well as the unique atmosphere in our dance club.

4. what gets on your nerves the most?
When guests don't know what they want, but I'm still not allowed to serve other waiting guests.

5. what developments in the bar scene / drink trends are coming?
I am convinced that non-alcoholic cocktails will become increasingly important. I also assume that high-quality tequilas will be ordered much more frequently in the future.

6. a special experience or moment behind the bar was ...
when I was in charge of the bar at the first Salazar Rueda festival, which took place at Sabor Latino, and many big names from this dance scene were present.

7. a world without social media would be ...
not necessarily easier, but certainly less hectic.

8. what was the most unusual bar you've ever visited?
The "Please Don't Tell" bar in New York, where a telephone booth in a hot dog restaurant leads to a hidden bar that offers excellent signature cocktails.

9. what do you treat yourself to from time to time?
A good glass of whisky after work or on a day off.

10. three qualities to describe you:
Resourceful, friendly, helpful
