Doubtful and disproportionate

Ireland is the first country in the world to introduce a warning label on wine, beer and spirits. Similar to cigarette packs, this will draw attention to the harmful consequences of alcohol consumption from 2026.

Swiss spirits industry fights back

SpiritSuisse is defending itself against the threatened tightening in the area of alcohol advertising and distribution. A more restrictive approach is demanded by the EU Commission, which is based on new scientific findings on the consequential harm of alcohol consumption.

Alcohol statistics 2018/2019 of Switzerland

Mr and Mrs Swiss drank slightly less alcohol in 2019 than in the previous year. Per capita consumption of wine fell by 8 dl. While spirits consumption remained constant, beer consumption by the average Swiss rose by one large (5 dl).
